Set up Slack webhook notifications

Send readable Affonso notifications to your team's Slack channel without writing code. You create a Slack incoming webhook for the destination channel, paste its URL into Affonso, and choose which events should be posted.

You need permission to create or install apps in your Slack workspace.

Create an incoming webhook in Slack

  1. Open the Slack app dashboard and create a new app, or open an app you already manage.
  2. Select Incoming Webhooks in the app settings.
  3. Turn on Activate Incoming Webhooks.
  4. Click Add New Webhook to Workspace.
  5. Select the channel that should receive Affonso notifications, then authorize the app.
  6. Copy the new URL from Webhook URLs for Your Workspace.

If you select a private channel, you must already be a member of that channel. For more detail, see Slack's incoming webhook guide.

Connect Slack to Affonso

  1. Open Connect → Webhooks in Affonso.
  2. Click Add Endpoint.
  3. Paste the Slack incoming-webhook URL into Endpoint URL.
  4. Confirm that Slack is selected as the format. Affonso suggests it automatically for recognized Slack URLs.
  5. Select the events you want to receive.
  6. Save the endpoint.
  7. Open the endpoint and click Send test event in Deliveries.
  8. Choose one of the subscribed events and click Send test event again.

The notification should appear in the Slack channel with a visible Test label, the selected event title, and realistic mock fields. The test does not create or read program records.

Send events to different channels

Create a separate Slack incoming webhook and Affonso endpoint for each channel that needs different notifications. For example, send new affiliate and referral events to a growth channel, and payout failures to a finance channel.

Each Slack notification contains a curated set of useful event details. If you need the complete machine-readable payload for an application or automation, create a Raw JSON webhook instead.

Troubleshooting

  • The URL is rejected: Copy the incoming-webhook URL again from Slack. Affonso accepts HTTPS URLs from recognized Slack incoming-webhook domains.
  • The test fails: Check that the webhook still exists, the Slack app can post to the selected channel, and its workspace permissions have not changed.
  • The message goes to the wrong channel: Create a new incoming webhook for the correct channel and update the Affonso endpoint.
  • A delivery failed after setup: Open the endpoint's Deliveries section to inspect the response. After fixing the destination, replay a production delivery or send a new test event. Test events cannot be replayed.

Keep the webhook URL secure

A Slack incoming-webhook URL contains a credential that can post to its channel. Do not share it in public messages, source code, or logs. If it is exposed, revoke or recreate the webhook in Slack, then update the endpoint in Affonso.
