How to Exclude Products or Plans from Commissions

Sometimes you need to keep specific products out of your affiliate program — a lifetime deal, an internal add-on, a discounted promo plan, or any SKU where paying commission doesn't make sense. You don't have to remove the default reward for the whole group: you can layer a $0 incentive on top of it that targets only the products you want to exclude.

How It Works

Affonso resolves commissions in a clear priority order. A more specific applyTo always wins over a more generic one:

1. SPECIFIC_PRODUCTS — match exact product or price IDs
2. YEARLY_PLANS — match yearly subscriptions
3. MONTHLY_PLANS — match monthly subscriptions
4. ONE_TIME_PRODUCTS — match one-time purchases
5. ALL_PLANS — the group default

A $0 incentive at a higher specificity overrides the default group reward for matching sales, leaving everything else untouched.

Step-by-Step: Exclude a Specific Product

1. Go to your Groups & Rewards settings
2. Open the affiliate group whose default reward you want to override
3. Click "Add Incentive"
4. Choose Fixed Amount as the commission type
5. Set the Amount to 0
6. Choose "Specific products" as the trigger
7. Select or create the product(s) you want to exclude (matching the price or product IDs from your payment processor)
8. Configure the rest of the incentive (length, approval) as usual
9. Save

That's it. Sales of the selected products will resolve to a $0 commission while every other product in the group keeps earning the default reward.

Note: Only Fixed Amount rewards can be set to 0. Percentage, Credits, and Free Months rewards must always be greater than 0. To exclude a product, choose Fixed Amount and enter 0.

Excluding Entire Plan Types

The same workflow applies for broader exclusions. Pick the matching applyTo:

• Exclude all yearly plans → Fixed Amount 0, applyTo Yearly plans
• Exclude all monthly plans → Fixed Amount 0, applyTo Monthly plans
• Exclude one-time purchases → Fixed Amount 0, applyTo One-time products

Because these are more specific than ALL_PLANS, they override the group default for that segment of sales.

Excluding for a Single Affiliate

If you want to exclude products only for one affiliate (and not the whole group), create an AffiliateIncentiveOverride with the same $0 setup. Per-affiliate overrides take precedence over group incentives, so the rest of the group keeps the original commission.

What You'll See in the Dashboard

Excluded sales still flow through tracking, so you'll see a referral and an earning record for each one — just with a $0 commission. This keeps your reporting accurate and lets you confirm the exclusion is working without silencing the sale entirely.
